Testing Teacher Evaluations

Education

Texas is fleshing out a new statewide teacher evaluation system, which is expected to roll out next year. The system will tie teacher evaluations to student performance on standardized tests. School districts will base 20% of each teacher’s evaluation on student growth. These changes are required for Texas to receive a federal waiver from No Child Left Behind. This will be the first update that our State has made to its teacher evaluation system in 17 years, but the proposed changes have encountered criticism from teacher groups and both Democratic and Republican lawmakers. The FOX26 team discusses these proposed changes and the impact they would have on Texas public schools.
