What does the same-sex marriage ruling mean for other freedoms?

Culture, Law

The historic ruling on same-sex marriage by the Supreme Court puts an end to gay marriage bans in 14 states. Four of the ten justices dissented, claiming states’ rights were being violated. Is there any merit to that argument? Additionally, what does this ruling mean for religious freedoms of individuals and businesses?

Sixty percent of Americans support the Court’s decision on same-sex marriage, but this is only a first step. The ruling does not offer protection against discrimination, this is why policies like the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) are so important.
