Showcasing our expertise through successful video production projects

UMC Commercial 1: ‘Hands Committed to Care’

  • GOAL: The aim of this commercial was to raise awareness about our client, and educate the citizens of El Paso about University Medical Center itself, and the services it has to offer.
  • CONCEPT: To make this commercial as engaging and impactful as possible, we wanted to use a combination of match cuts and mask cuts. We used a stabilizer for all of our shots to maintain the steady and dynamic flow we had established. Similarly, we set up all aspects to serve this feeling of warmth and care, from the lighting to the direction of the talent. A lot of the technical language in the script was carefully thought out to evoke a feeling of care in the viewers, such as the tagline of “Hands committed to caring”. We were successful in securing the bond by the end of the voting period, and it can be safely assumed that this commercial heavily factored in that result.
  • OBSTACLES AND SOLUTIONS: Although we faced numerous challenges given that we were filming in an active and operational hospital, our biggest obstacle was time. Many of the rooms where we were filming at the hospital were on standby to be used in case of emergencies. Additionally, we sought the help of the actual hospital staff who volunteered their time to be extras for the commercial, and who were on standby to return to work. Keeping this in mind, we had to ensure that not only was our crew mobile, and adaptable, but also efficient. Despite our preparations, there were certain rooms or hospital staff that were not available during the time we needed them, so we had to improvise and be proactive by filming other scenes while we waited for those other preparations.

UMC Commercial 2: ‘Doctor Interviews’

  • GOAL: This commercial focused on the doctors who work at UMC, with the intent of educating the public about UMC but from a more real and credible source.
  •

  • CONCEPT: By framing the production as a sit-down conversation, we conveyed true genuine emotions from the doctors who shared personal anecdotes and stories about their profession and career. To convey the humanity and emotions of the doctors, we opted for a documentary-style video that could further emphasize the authenticity and gravity of the doctors’ claims. In addition, we rented out a studio and filmed in front of an infinity wall for a cleaner and professional look, and we resorted to using a 3 camera setup to provide enough angles since none of it was staged.
  •

  • OBSTACLES AND SOLUTIONS: Because all of our testimonials were unscripted, that meant we had a lot of content to review during post-production On top of that, we had to condense the testimonials into a 30-second commercial for each of the doctors. Thankfully with the use of AI applications, we streamlined the process by transcribing each interview and used AI to highlight and select the most important points from their claims. From there, we carefully decided which quotes to use and the best way to structure the videos. It was trial and error, as we had to test different combinations of quotes to achieve the most impactful videos. In the end, we produced a variety of themes within the final videos, with some being more humorous, others more anecdotal, and others more emotional.

HCTRA Commercials 1 & 2: ‘EZ Tag’

  • GOAL: Both of these commercials had the objective of introducing and promoting a special discount that the Houston County tollway was offering to their customers.
  •

  • CONCEPT: We decided to use mask cuts and other dynamic transitions to bring about an energetic and upbeat feel to the commercials. Given that the Toll Way offers a faster route, we incorporated car elements and a fast-paced rhythm that matched well with the theme. This also pushed us to use more natural lighting to brighten up the scenes, and we maintained movement with the camera on a stabilizer.
  •

  • OBSTACLES AND SOLUTIONS: The talent for these commercials were the 4 Harris County Commissioners, and so we had to schedule our two filming days around their schedules. Given their tight availability, time was against us once more. Plus, we had to film at multiple different locations for each of the commercials in those two days, so working as efficiently as possible became a high priority. At the end of the day, we captured what we needed and we ensured that the 4 commissioners felt comfortable during the production.

HCTRA Holiday Commercial: ‘Holiday Savings’

  • GOAL: This commercial had the objective of introducing and promoting a special discount that the Houston County tollway was offering to its customers during the holiday winter season.
  •

  • CONCEPT: We used mask cuts and other dynamic transitions similar to the previous 2 commercials to establish consistency, but we also incorporated more holiday elements, such as the music, wardrobe, set dressing, and overall theme.
  •

  • OBSTACLES AND SOLUTIONS: Because we worked with a lot of extras during this production, along with many other moving parts, we had to choreograph and rehearse a lot of the scenes and transitions to get our timing right. Some of the in-camera transitions involved figuring out practical effects to achieve the desired look, such as using fishing string to move props. Rehearsing numerous times and carefully planning allowed us to capture our desired shots.

HCC 2023 Commercial: ‘Real World Education’

  • GOAL: The target for this commercial was to inspire future students to apply to HCC, and it was part of the leading efforts to rebrand the community college.
  •

  • CONCEPT: We primarily focused on mask cuts in this commercial for a stylized and modern look. To show the variety of degrees that HCC has to offer, we depicted different career paths that the main talent could explore. To achieve this, we filmed at different locations and with the appropriate wardrobe changes. Lighting played a big part in setting up a more gloomy look at the start that later switches to a brightly lit production as the commercial calls for it.
  •

  • OBSTACLES AND SOLUTIONS: This production called for an elaborate set of dressing and a large set of extras. It took the whole video team to do set dressing a day before, but we came together to produce eye-catching sets that pushed the narrative forward. Working with that many extras involved thorough brainstorming and doing briefings before each scene. Rehearsing played a large part in executing our plan, both in transitions and talent acting.

AISD: ‘School Tours’

  • GOAL: The goal for this video series was to make a promotional video for each of the AISD schools; filming an in person tour for local parents to get acclimated with in-zone schools.
  •

  • CONCEPT: Aside from being mobile enough to move school to school, each school had their own list of programs that they wanted to showcase, so we had to adapt to each school and their requirements. We began with meeting with the schools to get a sense of what all they had to offer, this served as a guide for our subsequent shoots. While our main focus was filming students going about their day-to-day schedule, we filmed some staged footage that would not only enhance the video quality, but also showcase some of the programs they host. Additionally, we balanced this footage with candid shots for authenticity, involving drone shots, close ups of students in classes, and wide establishing shots.
  •

  • OBSTACLES AND SOLUTIONS: This entire production lasted over three months, filming between 3 to 6 schools a day depending on the scheduling. We dealt with unpredictable weather conditions, long walking and standing periods, and tight schedules in between schools. We were a team of two videographers per school at any given time, and we were able to capture all the required footage by dividing up the shot list between us. We maintained communication with each school coordinator to ensure we captured all that was desired and under the given time.
