Marketing Budgets and Enrollment Campaigns in U.S. Community Colleges
What community colleges are doing to reconnect with students and rebuild enrollment
Why Marketing Matters Now More Than Ever for Community Colleges
Community colleges across the nation find themselves in a critical moment. As enrollment has declined significantly over the past decade, traditional outreach methods are no longer enough to bring students back. Many institutions operate with minimal marketing budgets, often under 1% of total expenditures, yet find themselves forced to connect with increasingly diverse and digitally-driven student populations.
Strategic marketing has become essential to reversing enrollment declines. Key recommendations include investing in consistent digital advertising, improving institutional branding, and tailoring messaging to reflect student realities. As community colleges navigate a period of transition and recovery, marketing will play a central role in re-engaging learners and sustaining growth.
